So I was hanging out at my favorite local bar with my bro Rell. Typical night, catching up, having a few drinks and ordering some wings. I wasnt really hungry, but my bro was so he wanted wings but a different type of sauce. The cook there, whos cool always comes out shows love and hangs out with us and the other customers for a second; suggested this “secret” wing sauce thats not on the menu. Something hot but a little sweet as well. this is where my first experience with Hot Cherry Hennessy Wings came from.
Being the foodie I am, I asked him the recipe and he gave it to me. it was really simple. But I knew I wanted to tweek it to make it mines. The basic recipe was Henny, Maraschino Cherry juice, Paprika, and Red Pepper Chili Flakes. After messing around in the kitchen a couple of times, I found a recipe that steps it up and makes it my own.
Here is the recipe for my Hot Cherry Hennessy Wings….
The Glaze:
1 Jigger aka 1.5 Ounces of Hennessy
1/2 Cup of Cherry Juice
1 Teaspoon of Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
1/4 Cup of Hnoney
1 Teaspoon of Chili Powder
1 Teaspoon of Smoked Paprika
Granulated Garlic, Onion & Pepper to Taste
*OJ’s Note* You can adjust the measurements acccording to the flavor you like. Some like more heat and less sweet or vice versa.
1. Combine all ingrediants in a small pot bring to a boil. Allow the sauce to reduce and thicken. And allow all the flavors to marry.
2. When I make wings I perfer them fried naked before tossing them in any saauce. I think this helps them to stay crispy on the outside. I hate heavily breaded wings that are dumped in sauce, they become all soggy and terrible. Frying them naked is the best way to go!
*OJ’s Note* I have my Chicken seasoning that I go with on all my wings, but for this recipe I’d stick with Salt, Pepper, Paprika, and a little Seasoning Salt.
3. Toss the wings to coat and you are good to go!
