So to celebrate our 9 months together my lady planned a brunch date for us at The Shelby. My girl aka The Sandwich Queen aka The Restaurant Guru was spot on again, because The Shelby may be one of my new favorite places to eat. When we got there I was impressed. It gave me a “Day party brunch in NY” vibes right off the back. It felt very hip, young, and felt like a perfect brunch spot. The set up is very industrial to me, like something you might find in the Meat Packing District in NYC. Outside there was a good amount of picnic tables set up, which was nice and welcoming for family’s too.
We started off with some pineapple mimosa’s. Which have been my new favorite for a while now. Eventually I ordered a carafe of champage. A full one was $48 but I feel like we got a good amount between the two of us. Its like we got a bottle from the Wine & Spirits store. I had the chicken and waffle off their brunch menu. Fried chicken thighs, with a vanilla waffle and bourbon maple syrup. I personally perfer chicken breats to thighs, but this meal was spot on. Chicken was seasoned well, crunch and the waffle was perfect. We also split an order of perfectly fried tator tots. They were really perfect.
My lady had their Malanga Chip Nachos. Malanga Root can be used like a potato or yam. You can peel, slice it and fry it as chips. Also boil and puree for a creamy hot or cold soup. When the root is overcooked it disintegrates, making it a natural thickener for stews. Malanga root is typically served with salty, dried meats and fish or spicy sausage.
“The Shelby Malanga Chip Nachos” came with chili con queso, slsa roja, pickled chilis, guacamole, sour cream, cilantro and onions. These chips were perfect. Strong enough to stand up to all the toppings and not get soggy. Perfect hangover food!
I truly enjoyed my time at The Shelby and cant wait to go back and try other things on their menu. Outside of the drive for some of my friends I want to bring a long, its really a perfect place to eat and just enjoy a nice day out.
